Have you ever seen a bed bug feeding up close and personal? I had fun this week filming these bugs feeding on my hand. As you can see from the short video above - you are a bed bug's primary food source. Bed bugs feed three to twelve minutes one to three times a week. Though they prefer human blood, bed bugs are known to feed off your pets as well, (dogs, cats, mice, and hamsters).
Their development contains five nymph stages and when supplied with a food source, they can grow to adulthood in as quickly as one to two months. Bed bugs can live from six months to a year and a half, going without feeding for as long as six months to an entire year! They're good at hiding and when not feeding, they will remain in cracks and crevices in your home.
How do they get into your home? They're often brought into a home or property through used furniture, luggage or bags, or even on a unsuspecting visitor. Intrigued by these cryptic pests? Keep an eye out for upcoming blogs with more information on bed bug bites, biology, and the best ways to keep them out of your home!
