How to Identify a Carpet Beetle

Carpet beetles are 1/16 to 1/4 of an inch in length. They vary in their coloring from black to multicolored beetles. They are often found in windowsills.

Carpet beetle larvae are small hairy and tan to black in color and appear to be striped.

Where Do They Come From

Carpet beetles live indoors and outdoors. They can be found: in stored foods, animal hides/materials/textiles, dead animals in voids, grain-based rodenticides, under carpeting, baseboards, and furniture, under seat cushions of upholstered furniture or anywhere hair, lint, dead insects and food crumbs collect.

They can also be found in areas of minimal use such as attics, basements, cubbies, under unused or seldom moved furniture or appliances, etc.
