How To Prevent Flies From Entering Your Home

  • To help prevent fruit flies, keep exterior doors closed, install screen doors, or install an automatic door closer, especially on doors leading into the kitchen.
  • Exclude their entry by caulking, weather stripping, door sweeps, screens, etc.
  • Keep any screens in good repair. Locate where they could be breeding and remove it, if possible.
  • Improve sanitation, especially with fruit and food material, used soda cans/juice boxes, clean broom/mop heads, and floor drains.
  • Clean floor drains on a regular basis.
  • Keep dumpsters 50 feet away from the building.
  • Trash cans, dumpsters, and garbage areas should be clean and free of odor.
  • Lids on dumpsters and trash cans should be kept closed.
